Because Decathlon's mission is "to sustainably make the pleasure and benefits of sport accessible to the many", their priority is to build the infrastructure for supporting circular models. Running successfully already second-hand and repair offers, they started with “rental date-to-date” for investigating rental models. They have been testing and deploying solutions with Lizee since 2019.
70% of Decathlon’s environmental impact comes from their products. This is the opportunity to reduce their footprint per product with a rental model, while learning to design better and more responsible products.
"We have a strong societal responsibility because we create products that drain resources and that make waste. The legal framework can change rapidly and oblige us to shift to the economy of use. That's why one of our commitments is to develop and sharpen the offer today. If re-commerce can represent between 10 to 20% of our turnover by 2026, we will be satisfied."
As a reminder, Decathlon worldwide has approximately a 12 billion euro in turnover per year.
“Our shareholders haven’t given us a blank check to reduce growth. So we must find a solution that offers the possibility of a more fertile and regenerative growth. When we have 70% of impact linked to our products, it is crucial to address this economy of use.”
